The great thing about VLC is a that it’s a popular open source media player .We are going to use VLC to extract sequences of images from any video you choose to play.
STEPS
Download and install VLC if you don’t have already
2. Open VLC. From the toolbar, select ‘Tools’ then ‘Preferences’.
3.In the settings window , under ‘Show Settings’, click ‘All’.
4.On the expanded menu on the left scroll to the ‘Video’ option click on ‘Filters’. Click the box to enable ‘Scene Video Filter’.
5.On the same left side menu, under ‘Video’, click the triangle beside ‘Filters’ to expand it. Select ‘Scene Filter’.
6.In the screen video filter sub menu,set:
Image format to PNG or JPEG or JPG
Image size(width and height) -leave it as it is
Prefix -any name of your choosing
Directory – set the location where you want the files to be extracted to
Adjust your ‘recording ratio’. This adjusts the proportion of frames from the video that will be exported. For example, if the recording ratio is set to 10, 1 out of every 10 frames will be saved to your folder as an image file.
7.Save your settings
8.Open the video file that you wish to extract the images from. Let the video play as long as you want it to.
9.Once you are satisfied with the result ,disable the ‘Scene video filter’ so that VLC will not generate images during every video that is played.

Show Settings -> All
Click the box to disable ‘Scene Video Filter’.
For newer versions of VLC you have to close VLC then relaunch for it to work properly.
